Many were the changes I made to achieve better well-being and quality of life during the past five years:
* eating better food,
* choosing more appropriate physical activities (like Pilates),
* having better sleep hygiene,
* becoming more stress resilient,
* caring more about my general health to avail more energy,
* thinking more positively,
* nurturing positive social connections, and
* constantly seeking novelty and learning new things.
Yet, taking those small steps forward, developing and implementing clear plans for change, and staying consistent have been challenging. Besides, we live in a world where it's easier to find unhealthy food, harder to stay fit, harder to focus, harder to resist buying things, and easier to find addictive substances. So, it became more important than ever that I learn ways to control my impulses and resist temptations against behaviors that would compromise my life goals.
Using the skills and techniques I have been learning in the University, courses, and other sources, I learned how to improve my self-regulation abilities and stop or initiate new behaviors that help me make lasting changes in my lifestyle.
I also learned that mental health is key to achieving wellness. Since 2019, I've been taking therapy sessions with an excellent, caring psychologist, Simone, who's also become my mentor in my Master's Degree program in Psychology. She helps me think, feel, and behave; she helps me become a better version of myself daily.
Family- what drove change in me and still does.
Friends- made me feel more accountable for the changes I proposed for myself, more valued, cared for, and supported.
Eternally thankful to all who were and still are part of my new "me."
