Meet Carrol Boyes: teacher, artist, and visionary who redefined the world of functional art.
Born in Cape Town in 1954, Carrol was brought up alongside her two brothers with a passion for entrepreneurship, artistry and rich South African heritage. After earning a fine arts degree from the University of Pretoria, Carrol spent over a decade teaching English and art - until she made a bold change in 1989.
Driven by a fierce belief that everyday objects could be both useful and stylish, Carrol began experimenting with copper, silver, brass and pewter to design bowls, cutlery and serveware with a touch of art. Working from her family home, Carrol sold her pieces at a stall in Cape Town’s Greenmarket Square where they quickly caught public attention for their bold and quirky charm.
By 1991 her designs captured hearts across South Africa, prompting Carrol to open her first factory on her family’s farm in Limpopo. Within a few years both national and international demand far exceeded expectations, and what began as one woman’s vision evolved into a thriving brand celebrated for its craftsmanship, artistic flair and everyday function.
Today Carrol Boyes pieces have found their way into the homes of admirers in over 50 countries, including right here in the UAE.
