I think it’s finally time to put a face behind VAZIRI.

Until now, this page has mostly been about the work — the casting, filing, soldering, stone setting, mistakes, experiments and the finished pieces.

But with more than 1,000 of you now following along, I wanted to properly say thank you.

I taught myself this craft simply because I became obsessed with making things by hand, and every new piece seems to push me a little further than the last.

The piece in this video is something I’m genuinely proud of, and probably the best representation so far of where this journey is taking me.

So that’s enough from me.

I’ll shut up and show you the ring.

Sand casting is one of the oldest and most direct ways to turn a design into solid metal.

The process starts by pressing the ring or pattern into tightly packed casting sand to create a two-part mould. Once the impression is clean, channels are cut for the molten silver to enter and for air to escape.

The silver is then melted and poured into the mould in one continuous movement.

After cooling, the rough casting is removed from the sand and the real bench work begins — cutting away the sprue, filing, sanding, refining the shape and preparing the piece for its final finish.

Simple in principle, but every stage matters. A clean mould, correct temperature and controlled pour can make the difference between a successful casting and starting again.
