🕯️ Dreams Expired in the Dust – The Bingara Murder of 1912

In 1911, a young English bride arrived in Australia full of hope for a new life. Within months, her fate would shock the nation and dominate headlines from Broken Hill to Sydney.

This is the true story of Louisa Ball — a woman who came to Bingara seeking a fresh start, only to meet a tragic and violent end on a remote property called 'The Hill'. Her husband William was arrested aboard a ship bound for New Zealand, tried for wilful murder, and executed in Armidale Gaol in June 1912.

Over 100 years later, her grave — if she ever had one — has likely never been visited. 💔

In 1827, explorer Allan Cunningham crossed the Gwydir River and discovered the site of what would become our beloved town of Bingara. 150 years later, in 1977, the Bingara Historical Society marked that Sesqui-Centenary with something truly special — a community cookbook filled with recipes from Bingara's pioneering families.

Every recipe carries the name of the person who contributed it. Names like Neville Butler, Lila Bilsborough, Barbara Lemin, Wendy Gill, Betty Hayes, Joan Bull and so many more — a roll call of the families who built this town. 🏡

With the Bingara Show just around the corner, we thought it was the perfect time to Rodney's fascinating story of how it all began — the very first Bingara Pastoral and Agricultural Show, held in 1931.

It was a remarkable achievement for a pioneering community. Newspaper headlines at the time said it all: 'High class cattle.' 'Splendid ring events.' 'Large attendances were present on both days.'

At the heart of it all was President Gordon Munro, who transformed the old sports ground into a modern show ring — and a community came together to make history.
