The rhyme "Something old, (connection to family) something new, (hope, optimism, a new chapter) something borrowed, (from a happily married friend) something blue" (symbolising love and fidelity) comes from Victorian England, and versions of it were recorded in the late 19th century. We all know that sweet little rhyme don't we, and how the bride would carry or wear each item on her wedding day as a collection of good-luck charms for her marriage, but do you know there is actually another line that is often forgotten "... and a sixpence in her shoe." The sixpence (which is known as the 5 cent coin now days) was intended to bring prosperity and good fortune to the marriage.

The sixpence tradition can be beautifully modernised without feeling old-fashioned.
At Forget-Me-Not Celebrancy we can turn it into a meaningful moment rather than simply putting a coin in the bride's shoe.
