The Mycelium Project ~ One Mushroom. One Moment.

Created during the Tasmanian Mushroom Festival 2026, The Mycelium Project grew from a simple idea: that one small contribution can become part of something extraordinary.

Tasmanian artist Sue Holm painted this enchanting forest backdrop and, together with Kim Ogden of Elysian Gallery & Gifts, invited fungi lovers, artists, families and festival visitors to help it grow. From Burnie to Hobart, participants added their own mushroom or brought Sue's beautifully illustrated fungi to life with colour. Every contribution, whether large or small, became part of the story.

Like the hidden mycelium beneath the forest floor, this artwork reminds us that the strongest communities are built through many individual connections. Each mushroom represents a moment of presence, creativity and belonging.

Together, these individual marks became one shared forest.

Now permanently displayed at Elysian Gallery & Gifts, this artwork celebrates the generosity, creativity and connection that continue to grow within Tasmania's fungi community.

Every mushroom tells a story. Together, they tell ours.
