🌿 MEET THE MAKER 🌿

This week we're featuring a talented self-taught stained glass artist from Cairns. ✨

Meet Amy—a registered nurse, mum of five, and passionate maker who creates beautiful stained glass pieces whenever she can find a spare moment.

Although she describes herself as a "micro maker", Amy's work has found homes across the globe, including the USA, Wales, New Zealand and Thailand.

Her journey into stained glass began in 2022 after having a stained glass window installed in her home. Inspired by the craftsmanship, she asked herself, "Could I do that?" Armed with curiosity, a few tools and some glass, she taught herself the art from scratch.

Today, Amy loves the timeless beauty of stained glass. Each piece takes hours of careful work to create, resulting in something both delicate and enduring—art that has the potential to last for generations.

It's a beautiful reminder that creativity can flourish at any stage of life.

This little trinket dish is made with lead free solder, in black/copper patina. A little experiment i thought I'd like to try.

This little trinket dish is made using lead-free solder with a black/copper patina—a little experiment I'd been wanting to try. 💐

I have to admit, lead-free solder is incredibly challenging to work with if you're aiming for a smooth, clean finish. And to my surprise, the black patina developed into a beautiful warm copper instead! 🤔✨

Patinas are developed for application on lead based solders, and when applied to lead free alloys they often produce bronze or copper tones instead of black. I suppose it just adds to the handmade character?

Despite the challenges, I think this piece tells an important story- it was made by human hands. No machines. No perfection. Just a vision, a handful of tools, and a slightly crazy idea brought to life. ❤️

The Pretty Things collection launches 27/7/26 at TheGlassNurseShop on Etsy. Very limited one of a kind pieces. Each piece is made by be admist a very busy family life and 6 days a week nursing xo thank you for your patience.
