Glenn Carins has now completed his trilogy of North-East Tasmania farming community histories: Winnaleah Days (2021), Legerwood Days (2023), and his just-released third title, Ringarooma Days (2026) — the story of the district founded as "Krushka Town" during the 1870s tin boom.

Together the three books trace generations of families across the region — Wardlaw, Farquhar, Singline, Bartlett, Denholm, Rattray and many more — through farming, timber, mining and community life from the 1860s to today.

All three are in stock now at The Book Cellar in Campbell Town, along with many other local Tasmanian and family history titles – both new and out of print / used books.

Order two or more together and we'll combine them into a single parcel.

Lots of distractions in a bookshop. Came across this special photo on one of the last pages of a book... the first reunion in 1930 of the returned Tasmanian men who were in the first Tassie contingent to sail to war on the Geelong and Katuna, 20 October 1914. Pretty much all of them ANZACs. At the Hobart Cenotaph. So real.

Just in — the book Tasmanian furniture collectors have been waiting for.

Peter Hughes, TMAG's Senior Curator of Decorative Arts, has spent years researching colonial Tasmanian furniture. The result is Furnishing Van Diemen's Land — 245 pages on the furniture made in the colony between 1803 and 1870. Published 2026. The most comprehensive treatment of the subject since the 1972 Craig/Fahy/Robertson standard reference.

We have copies. Order online or phone 03 6381 1545.

The most extraordinary life in Tasmanian history. Possibly in any history.

Jorgen Jorgenson was born in Copenhagen in 1780. By the age of 29 he had sailed to the ends of the earth, fought in the Napoleonic Wars, landed in Iceland, overthrown the Danish government, declared himself Protector, issued his own proclamations, flew his own flag — and ruled for two months before the British Navy removed him.

Jorgenson spent the next two decades in and out of English debtors' gaols before being transported to Van Diemen's Land, where he became a convict constable, explorer, writer and one of the most remarkable figures in Tasmanian colonial history. He died in Hobart in 1841.

Dan Sprod spent decades researching Jorgenson, and The Usurper is the result — 718 pages, fully indexed, including Jorgenson's own account of the Iceland revolution.

Published in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. We have new copies in stock at $89.95.

Available online or in store at The Book Cellar, Campbell Town, Tasmania.

From convict-era wards to modern hospitals — 200 years of Tasmanian nursing, on our shelves...

Did you know the Royal Hobart Hospital's history stretches back to 1804? The Book Cellar holds a deep collection of Tasmanian nursing and hospital history in stock — from general nurse training at the RHH, to the wartime service of Tasmanian nurses, to hospital histories from Launceston right down to our local Campbell Town hospital.

Many of the books are signed, several are out of print and hard to find elsewhere. A lovely gift for anyone who trained as a nurse in Tasmania, or for family historians tracing a nursing career through the generations.
