‘For Daniel, my favourite husband’ [never before have a seen an opening dedication so perfectly matched to a book].

My beautiful 12 year old daughter picked this book out for me as a birthday present in March, she deliberated over many other books in selecting it and saw this one and said to my husband ‘This is it. Mum loves keys’.
Truth is - I never would have picked this myself (aside from perhaps the key imagery) - I rarely seek out thrillers, but I think my daughter was onto something (whether she realised it or not!). I loved it and turned pages like my life depended on it, especially in the opening chapters.
Whilst the key on the cover was the main reason this book of endless twists, turns and thrills landed in my lap, the thrilling twisting storytelling captivated and held my attention immediately.
The mystery of the wife unable to get back into her home and then disappearing; the husband with a new - or past? - wife who looks almost identical to her; the police investigator who arrives with her dark past and (seemingly) tough-guy approach to all who she crosses paths with; the house at the centre of it all and with a fitting name to boot (‘Spyglass’) and a town named appropriately and equally ironically (‘Hope Falls’)…..
