One from a recent collaboration with our good friend ! He did an amazing job on the graphic design, so classic and classy. Designing reels would have to be my favourite part of this job. With literally thousands Fly Reels being manufactured by hundreds of makers over the centuries I like to think of reel making like Micro Breweries or Wineries , there are so many to choose from… Some are s**t some are amazing but it’s the little details in quality and care that make all the difference, ultimately they are all awesome in their own way.

I created this custom engrave from a cloth patch from the 1960’s I believe which has great sentimental value to the customer. It can be a painstaking process tracing the image with my design software and then creating the 3 dimensional machining program, many hours. From there I use 3D milling and a 0.1mm engraving tool. Once anodised the engrave is paint filled old school style with two pack paint and then baked in the oven to cure.
