Rim-brake bike? You're not stuck on 11-speed.

Shimano Ultegra R8150 Di2 — the rim-brake 12-speed groupset — is $1,959 (RRP $2,999). Di2 levers and derailleurs, a full 12-speed drivetrain, battery and wiring in the box, for the frame you already love. No disc conversion, no new wheels: your 11-speed freehub takes the 12-speed cassette.

We convert any 11-speed road bike to 12-speed at Marrickville. Compatibility check first, fitting quoted before anything is ordered, and pick-up and return across Sydney if you'd rather not make the trip.

Is there a 12-speed Shimano CUES? No, and there isn't meant to be.

CUES comes in 9, 10 and 11-speed only. It runs LINKGLIDE, which uses thicker cassette teeth built for durability. Fitting a twelfth cog would mean thinner teeth and a thinner chain, which undoes the point of the system.

What to know before you spend money:

LINKGLIDE and Shimano's 12-speed HYPERGLIDE+ don't mix. Cassettes, chains and derailleurs aren't interchangeable.

CUES fits the HG freehub already on your wheel. Shimano 12-speed MTB needs MICRO SPLINE, which often means a new freehub body or rear wheel.

If you're after an easier climbing gear rather than a twelfth cog, 11-speed CUES goes to 11-50T without touching the wheel.

Still on 11-speed? This is the spring to move up.

Shimano's 12-speed road groupsets are in stock at Marrickville — mechanical or Di2, disc or rim brake — and we convert any 11-speed road bike to 12-speed. Your current wheels stay: the 12-speed road cassette fits the 11-speed freehub you already have.

Four ways in:
• 105 R7100 mechanical (disc) — $699.99, the cheapest we've ever sold it
• 105 R7170 Di2 (disc) — $1,654.92
• Ultegra R8150 Di2 (rim brake) — $1,959
• Ultegra R8170 Di2 (disc) — $2,299

Fitted at the workshop by Australia's only Authorised Mobile Shimano Service Centre, with a 30-day workmanship guarantee. Fitting is quoted at booking — or message us with your bike and current groupset and we'll quote it.

Wheels and tyres aren't two separate purchases. Internal rim width sets the shape of the tyre, and the front and rear are doing different jobs, so matching tyres front and rear is often the wrong call.

On the stand, the most common issue we see isn't a bad wheel or a bad tyre. It's a good wheel carrying the wrong tyre.

In the new blog post we break down:
- how rim width changes tyre profile
- why front and rear take different treads
- the casing choice most riders under-spec
- the three pairings we build most for Sydney trail and enduro riders

🚲 Choosing your next road wheelset: Rim vs. Disc, Alloy vs. Carbon?

Upgrading your wheels is one of the biggest transformations you can make to your road bike, but with so many options out there, where do you start?

We’ve broken down everything you need to know in our latest guide:
🛑 Rim vs. Disc: Your frame already makes this choice for you—don't try to force an adapter! Disc is where modern R&D lives (wider rims, tubeless setups, deep profiles), while rim-brake options are slowly narrowing.
🪶 Alloy vs. Carbon: It’s not just about weight—carbon lets rims go deep and aerodynamic without feeling like a brick. But alloy still wins big on durability, everyday budget, and easy repairs for commuters or winter trainers.

Are you chasing flat-out speed on deep carbon profiles, or keeping it bulletproof with a reliable alloy setup?
