Many Australian-Albanians are from the Floq/ Korce area. News of the earthquakes that have destroyed many homes has reached us. Let’s do something about the situation some people are in because the government can’t move as fast as they can when big business is on the table.
All profits from now until July will be going direct to the people of floq.

Dorothy was born in Western Australia. Her family was generous and hard-working, once giving up a meal to prevent child services looking badly upon neighbours who lost their mother/ wife. She worked as a young woman and met an Albanian immigrant who she soon married. In the following years, they had a large family. Dorothy took on language, a Muslim name (although she was never religious) and blended styles of cooking, much to the delight of her grandchildren. Yet she always kept her opinion that drama is a waste of time, most people (especially politicians) are gits and action speaks louder than words.
She and Ali learnt Italian, Indonesian and Albanian together. She became an Albanian interpreter and helped many people. In her later years, she was a friend to many. She only disliked people who flaunted wealth or ego. She liked the company of people who laughed and told stories and for a period didn’t charge a young First Nations guy (staying in the flats) rent, mostly because she enjoyed a ciggie and coffee with him and told me that she didn’t think it was her place to make him pay rent. As I got to know her as a friend, not just a grandma, I realised she was best at recycling and not wasting. She had a lasting effect on me and continues to guide what zemer stands for. Thanks Nan x
