Fresh blood stains, dried blood stains, and old blood stains all need to be treated using the same three principles. They need to be flushed with cold water, treated with an enzymatic stain remover (not an oxygen bleach stain remover), and agitated while you treat them.

It really doesn’t matter whether you’re talking period un**es, white sheets, or your denim jeans; once you know how to remove protein stains, it’s bloody easy.

What really works?

For softer towels, use the dryer for 2 mins before you put them away instead of vinegar.

To fluff up pillows, doonas and jackets, set your dryer to air dry and add a few tennis balls, this really works.

For whitening, the sun works better than bicarb soda, but nothing beats oxygen bleach.

And lastly, to properly de-wrinkle your shirts, you probably need a steamer or an iron. This hack was by far the worst we tested, within about 30 seconds we had forgotten which went through with

If you’re buying a product like soap or shampoo or preserved / prepackaged foods - you’re probably buying a product with an oil base.

And if it’s labelled “natural”, that oil base will come from a natural crop, not petrochemicals. Which is great.

But natural crops have their dark side too. They take resources, like land and water to grow. We don’t like this either, but all products have an impact, and that we understand well.

It often surprises people to learn that sustainable palm is actually one of the most efficient crops in the world. Making it the vegetable oil with the least impact, not the one you want to avoid.

That’s why we use RSPO palm oil in our products.

This is despite many ‘opinion leaders’ in our supply chain telling us to ‘avoid it’, not because of its efficiency - but because ‘consumers think its bad’.

There is no faster growing crop, and no others with a monitored supply chain.

Their advice: “use something that doesn’t have a bad name, yet”… something slower yielding and often procured via blatant deforestation. Coconut oil is a popular one right now (palm yields 2-8 times faster than coconut crop).

It is our belief that a raw material that’s being monitored and facing immense pressure, like palm, IS our best bet. Switching to a less known commodity, hoping that its practices are better doesn’t sit well with us.

Our choice to use sustainable palm oil is one that we’ve thought about a lot. It’s nuanced and comes with an understanding that at the moment no options are perfect.

If you’ve been relying on the old bicarb and vinegar trick as your go-to cleaner, you might want to start rewashing things… quickly.

It’s lauded across the internet as the a cheap and easy DIY hack. Which on a surface level makes some sense.

Bicarb soda on it’s own is caustic, which means it can be used to descale. Vinegar on it’s own is acidic, making it good at cutting through grease.

But when you mix the two, they neutralise each other and you’re left with a concoction that has a chemical makeup similar to fizzy nothing. And as you can probably guess, this isn’t exactly great at cleaning.

Our verdict? It’s a hoax.

Do this. Count your clothes.

It’s a good excuse for a wardrobe deep-clean, but its even more interesting to see where your over-indexing against what you’re really putting on each day.

Frankie has three skirts. Have we ever seen her wear a skirt. Not once. Will she go and buy the next skirt of the season? Unlikely now.

Understanding = knowing and knowing = better choices going forward.
