Hi all
I Recently returned from another incredible trip. Peter and I were successful this time in harvesting a nice deer to fill the freezer.
What a trip the walk in was uneventful but once we got to the river to cross that's when everything changed. I tried the river, however it just wanted to sweep me down stream, so a change of tact was decided.
We decided on an alternate route following the river around to a suitable camp. This tested the 62 year old legs, one stage I lost my footing and was sliding down a steep face heading for the river, a hairy moment! I used every ounce of strength to stop the slide and thankfully I was successful! I had to abandon the r***e on the fall down, Peter heart in mouth was certain I was heading for the drink! An adventure before the adventure!
4hrs later we got to a spot we could set up camp. The next 4 days we covered huge amounts of distance and were successful in harvesting a 4 year old Stag. He was quartering about 200m behind a tree, perfect placement just off his righthand should blade he rolled and dropped on the spot huge thank you to Nathan Foster for helping me develop the perfect load for Alpine hunting.
We were able to really understand the terrain and the animal movements through this area and every time we go we learn something new which allows us to have a stronger plan. I don't usually like taking young stags out of circulation but we really needed to bring home some meat on this trip.
I have set up a couple of cameras, as we want to understand the times they move through areas. We are back in to check the cameras in about 5 weeks. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
