Here's something surprising......
every piece of fabric is gently pre-washed before I cut and sew it.

Why?
Several reasons:
- to pre-shrink it. There are no nasty surprises should you wish to wash your piece once you own it.
- to see if the colours run.
- to remove any residual dye, chemicals, such as formaldehyde, which is often used to fix dye; and to prevent mould & mildew growth during transport and storage from where the cotton is manufactured.

By the time your piece reaches you, it is in the best condition for your future use & health it can possibly be.

🧵Handmade, and in particular custom requests, are not necessarily about the end product.
🧵These items are about the joy in connecting with the customer, deciphering exactly what it is they would like, and then the challenge of creating it, often without a pattern to follow.
Items like these are about the trial and error, and the PROCESS.

🧵At the end of this, of course the finished item is the hero moment, but the journey along the way is where the real pleasure of handmade lies.

Why is Cotton "sustainable"? I know this word is overused, but hear me out.....
I chose cotton for my business because it is made by Nature, and fully biodegradable. It does not shed microplastics, nor is it a 'forever' or long-term material, remaining in our landfill sites for hundreds of years. It is a natural fibre which breaks down at the end of its lifecycle.

And yes, it is strange to have the end in mind, when I create something new. But how important is that?
