A lump of clay doesn’t look like much to most of us, but give it time, creativity and a pair of patient hands and slowly something begins to appear.

Around Mudgeeraba there are people still learning, teaching and sharing the art of pottery.

We love that making things by hand is alive and well around here.

Things we love about Mudgeeraba.

Not everything we love about this place needs to be an attraction. A shady tree, in Cuddihy Park, a kookaburra making a racket on the village green or friends chatting over brekkie in the village market can tell you plenty about where you are.

Sometimes it’s the little things.

Here’s something that might change the way you look at Mudgeeraba.

The village hasn’t always been where it is today.
When Mudgeeraba Railway Station opened in 1903, the original town settlement was centred further away, around what is now the Uniting Church.

But a railway station was rather useful.
So gradually, the town moved towards it.
Shops and village life followed. And the centre of Mudgeeraba shifted to roughly where we know it today.

The railway station itself is long gone.But in a way, we’re still living in the village it created.

From bookkeepers to booksellers.

That’s quite the career change.
Long time friends Anita and Nadine spent years working together as bookkeepers before deciding it was time for something different.

Something built around something they actually loved.

Books.

So they ditched the spreadsheets and opened an independent bookstore together in Mudgeeraba.

Bookness opened its doors in 2023.

We love this chapter.

There’s the quickest way to get somewhere.
And then there’s the hinterland way.

Wind through the hills and bushland, slow down when the road does and pull over when something makes you want a better look.

One of our favourite things about eating around Mudgeeraba is the variety.

You can have a completely different experience from one table to the next, because our food scene isn’t dominated by one style or one idea of what a hinterland village should serve.

Different chefs. Different cultures. Different flavours. Plenty of reasons to come back hungry.
