Arlene's Crafts Arlene’s Crafts, created by fibre artist and embroidery tutor Arlene White, inspires creativity through embroidery, tutorials and innovative craft projects.

Discover Stitched Shapes—combining stitching, creativity and hands-on learning. Given the opportunity to teach through the use of mobile media and online in the virtual classroom, has appealed to me for sometime. Being able to reach a much wider and possibly younger audience introducing them to the wonderful art of embroidery. Hoping that they enjoy the projects offered and so ensuring the craft o

f embroidery will be around for future generations to enjoy. My favorite embroidery techniques are Stumpwork - 3 dimensional embroidery, Goldwork - the use of gold metal threads, Surface Embroidery, and Crazy Patchwork - incorporating all three of these techniques in her work. The introduction of 3D printing has opened more doors for us to expand the teaching environment. Though our Stitched Shapes available September 2026, we will be able to bring a much younger audience into the world of embroidery.

My Goldwork Beetle Embroidery Tutorial is back in my Etsy shop after a little refresh.

This is a project I first created many years ago, and I’m delighted to bring it back into the spotlight. If you love dimensional embroidery, beads, metallic threads and beautiful Goldwork techniques, this little beetle is a lovely project to stitch.

The step-by-step digital tutorial includes detailed instructions, photographs, helpful tips and techniques to guide you through creating your own Goldwork Beetle.
