The Old Man of the Creek
Five years ago I found this remarkable piece of driftwood in my garden beside Currumbin Creek after flooding. I didn’t carve it—I simply cleaned, treated and preserved it exactly as nature had shaped it.
This illustration returns him to the creek where his story began. The landscape is the very place where he was found, with the atmosphere gently enhanced to reflect the mood I saw within the timber.
Sometimes all we need to do is look a little more closely to discover the characters nature has already created.
What do you see when you look at the original piece of driftwood?
