So grateful to have delivered my second series of six workshops at Ellenbrook Youth Centre as part of the SEW-Arts research project.
This time, the workshop was called My Bag, My Story — a storytelling and fashion-making journey using pre-loved jeans. Together, we learned how to deconstruct denim, practise basic hand-sewing stitches, cut patterns, create inspiration boards, and transform old jeans into beautifully personal tote bags.
What I loved most was seeing each participant bring their own ideas, feelings, memories, and style into the making process. Even though everyone started with the same base project, each final bag became completely unique — a reflection of personal creativity, confidence, and story.
It was such a joy to meet and work with this thoughtful, creative group. Thank you to everyone who took part, and thank you to .wa for supporting meaningful creative spaces for young people.
