This week reminded me that life has a funny way of putting things into perspective.
Last Friday, on my way home from work, I was hit with a severe pain in my right side. After a few tests and being fortunate enough to have a wonderful doctor, I knew I needed surgery. After being bumped off the operating list twice, I found myself with a lot of time to wait. Sleep was hard to come by—only one or two hours a night.
The strange thing about waiting is that you notice the people around you. I met some truly incredible people, each carrying their own story. It reminded me of something I learned during one of the hardest chapters of my life four years ago.
We never really know what someone is going through.
Some battles are visible, but most are hidden. People smile, go to work, laugh, and keep moving forward while quietly carrying burdens that no one else sees. It's a reminder not to judge, because every person you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.
During my stay, a beautiful friend who helped me through one of the darkest times in my life surprised me with a little bunting. It may seem like a small gift, but to me it represents hope, friendship, and the kindness that can help carry us when life feels overwhelming.
That bunting now sits on my counter at work, where I see it every day. It's a reminder that life isn't always fair, but it's also a reminder that kindness matters. Sometimes the smallest gesture can mean everything to someone who is struggling.
If this week has taught me anything, it's this: be kind, be patient, and never underestimate the impact you can have on another person's journey. We are all carrying something, and we all deserve a little grace. ❤️
