We stripped it back, rebuilt it from the ground up and brought this rig back to life. 🔥

Another set of hand-built wheels completed at True Spoke Cycles.

This time, it’s for a 90s Redline BMX restoration — keeping the classic look while giving the bike a fresh set of wheels ready to get back out there.

Both wheels were built from the ground up with attention to spoke tension, trueness, dish and overall finish.

There’s something pretty special about taking an old BMX and bringing it back to life. BMX is where it all started for us, so getting to work on restorations like this hits a little differently. 🤙

This one came through the workshop for a full Silver Service, with some extra attention given to the headset.

The bike was stripped down where required, thoroughly inspected, cleaned and checked over before everything was reassembled, adjusted and torqued back to spec.

🔧 FULL HUB STRIP & REBUILD

This hub came in for a full strip, clean and rebuild.
The entire hub was disassembled, with the axle, cones, bearings, races and seals all removed and thoroughly cleaned.

Everything was inspected for wear and condition before being regreased and carefully rebuilt.

The bearings were cleaned up, fresh grease applied, and the hub was adjusted to get everything running smoothly with the correct preload.

A proper strip and rebuild can make a massive difference to how a hub feels and performs — especially when everything is cleaned, inspected and set up correctly.

Another hub back to running smooth, clean and ready to roll. 🔧

Some days aren't about setting PBs. They're about showing up.

After everything that's happened lately, today wasn't about training. It was about getting back into the workshop and doing what I love.

This bike came in with a grinding noise under load. What started as a quick check turned into a complete teardown.

Bottom bracket apart. Rear hub stripped. Bearings replaced. Freehub serviced. Drivetrain cleaned. Every part inspected before going back together.

Sometimes the problem isn't where you first think it is. You keep digging until you find the real cause.

Funny enough... that's a pretty good lesson for life too.
There's something therapeutic about bringing a bike back to life. One bearing, one bolt and one job at a time.

That's what True Spoke Cycles is all about.

This Polygon downhill bike came into the workshop for a Silver Service, and during the inspection we found a few issues that needed attention.

The headset had developed noticeable play and was heavily contaminated with dirt and old grease. Left unchecked, this can lead to rough steering, premature bearing wear and expensive replacements.

🛠️ What We Found:
✔️ Loose headset
✔️ Bearings heavily contaminated with dirt and old grease
✔️ Glazed brake pads
✔️ Significant brake dust and build-up throughout the braking system

🔩 The Fix:
✔️ Complete headset disassembly
✔️ Bearings cleaned in the ultrasonic bath
✔️ Fresh grease applied throughout
✔️ Headset reassembled and torqued to spec
✔️ Brake system cleaned
✔️ Brake pads deglazed and inspected
✔️ Full safety check completed

✅ The Result
The headset is now smooth, quiet and correctly adjusted, while the brakes are performing far better without the glazing and contamination.

It's a great reminder that regular servicing isn't just about keeping your bike clean — it's about catching small issues before they become expensive repairs.

At True Spoke Cycles, every bike gets a thorough inspection because sometimes the biggest problems are the ones you can't see from the outside.
