The wild thing about old photos like this is nobody standing around these cars back then could’ve imagined how iconic both the Phase 3 and Dick Johnson would become years later. These XY GTHOs were already feared on the street, Bathurst weapons on the track and absolute kings of Aussie muscle culture. Funny enough, half the internet still argues over every old DJ photo because people instantly assume every GT beside him was his personal car.

This snap’s got everything — young Dick Johnson, a genuine Phase 3 and peak seventies Ford attitude all in one frame. Massive respect to the owner for preserving such a cracking piece of Aussie motoring nostalgia. One legendary moment from the golden era frozen forever.
