Hi Folks,
Just a quick up date. Recently I got a small piece of wire stuck in my foot. I didn't even feel it go in. Long story short, I'm in Cairns Hospital with a nasty foot infection, have had 4 or 5 surgeries with hopefully only one to go. Hoping to be home Wednesday or Thursday. The staff here are all angels.

Hi Folks,
Regrettably we will not be attending the Tomoulin Country Markets tomorrow due to me feeling under the weather for the last week or so.

Second test burn of water heater.

16/04/2023

Hi Folks,
This video is of the first test burn of our Domestic Water Heater MK2. The first heater had a small problem (explained on video). I redesigned the whole thing with a few improvements from the last one. For a first test burn I am extremely happy with the results.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Any and all comments / suggestions are more than welcome.

Shane.

Hi Folks,
I get quite a few requests for prices of my Rocket Stoves. I’ve just realised the reason is I don’t have them posted here on the page. My bad. Here they are.
A quick update on progress of the household water heater. I did about a dozen or more test runs with good results. Then I had a bit of a problem, in that it started to run backwards from time to time. At first, I thought it may not be a problem but then realised it could cause sudden bursts of hot water from the tank. I would hate to live with the knowledge that I inadvertently caused a burn, no matter how unlikely. So I went back to the drawing board and redesigned it to totally eliminate that from happening. While I was at it I made a few other changes to make it easier to use and quite a bit lighter. When I’ve thoroughly tested it AGAIN I’ll let you see the finished result and a demo.

Prices
Mini Rocket Stove $120

Standard Rocket Stove $400

Deluxe Rocket Stove $1190
Add site Glass add $100
Add wood pellet basket add $100
Add water heater add $100
Add 2nd chimney extension add $60
The lot $1550
Thanks
Shane

Hi Folks,
Here is the next recipe. It’s Chicken Wings on Noodles. This is my “go to recipe” if we are going somewhere and asked to bring a plate. I use 2 minute noodles but don’t let that put you off, I pimp them up a bit, or a lot. I do it on the Standard Rocket Stove simply because I did the last recipe on the mini, although the standard does make it little easier to control the heat output.
Ingredients.
One packet of 2 minute noodles per person.
Five or six half chicken wings per person. I cut the wings in half. I think they may be called Buffalo wings

Marinade
Teriyaki Sause
Sweet Soy Sauce (normal soy sauce will do)
Garlic (minced or finely chopped)
Ginger (minced or finely chopped)
About a table spoon of jam (any kind will do)
Just a dash of cooking oil (any kind will do)
A little tomato sauce
A little fish sauce (Don’t let the smell put you off)
A little sugar (optional)
If you don’t have some of the above, just improvise. Make it how you like it.
If you don’t have a Rocket Stove a good way to do the wings is in air fryer.
I hope you give it a go. If you do, let us know how it went.
Remember, it always tastes a little better if you cook it on a Rocket Stove.
Shane.

Hi Folks,
As promised here is the first recipe. It’s a very simple one to start with (but very tasty)

I’m calling it flatbread with egg. It’s great for breakfast or just a snack. It’s so easy I managed to two of them in the attached video in one take.

Ingedients.
Flatbread of any type or size you like. I used very small ones so if you use a large one you might consider using two eggs.

Eggs How many depends on the flatbread you use.

Fillings It’s only limited by your imagination. I used left over sausage but ham or bacon would be just as nice. Cheese always goes well with egg. Onion would be a great substitute for eschalots that I used.

Salt and pepper to taste Again use your imagination or what ever you have.

I hope you give it a go. If you do, I’d love to know how you changed the recipe and what it was like.

In my next video I will show you how to cook one of my favourite meals. Chicken wings on noodles. It’s a sweet dish that I cook when invited to a do where they say “bring a plate”
I’ll do it on the Standard Rocket Stove because that stove offers a little more control over the heat output.

Remember, it always tastes a little better if you cook it on a Rocket Stove.

Hi Folks,
Thankyou to all who responded to my question the other day. “Is it, or is it not a chip heater?” that I posted here and on a few Tablelands notice boards. The responses were over-whelming that the answer was NO. I’ve even come around to that opinion myself. Don’t get me wrong, I still think it is a good investment.

It seems that people expect a chip heater to deliver instant hot water rather than it collecting in a tank and I think that’s fair enough.

The other thing I learned was that around half of those that responded say that a chip heater should be a container inside a container (a double skinned tank) with the fire inside the inner tank and the water running between the two. The other half thought that a coil of copper either coiled around or coiled inside a pipe is acceptable.

I would love to do a double skinned tank version but at this time that is beyond my skill set as it would need to be made with either stainless-steel or aluminum. I’m always learning so maybe on day.

A copper tube version on the other hand is right up my alley. I went to bed last night thinking about how to do it and my first thought when I woke up was the same, so I’m “onto it”

Someone also reminded me that some chip heaters ran on kerosine. Running on Kero might be good for camping but not so much in an off-grid situation. I couldn’t resist the temptation to try my current heater out on Kero. After a few minutes of playing with vents it was really roaring with no smoke. I had water from the garden hose running in one end with hot water out the other. The problem was that I used a full litre of Kero just to get the heater hot enough to do the job. Not nearly economical enough to my liking.

Next week I’ll try it out with wood fuel in the same configuration (ie with the garden hose) and see how that goes. I’m feeling optimistic about that as sticks are cheaper than Kero.

Anyway, I’ve waffled on enough. I hope to see some of you at the Tumoulin Country Markets this Sunday. The weather forecast looks good. If you do, please please introduce yourself to me or Kerry. We would love to meet you in person.

The photos are of my heater with a shroud over the chimney. I only put it on to make it safe for the market but I was surprised how it improved the look. The other photo is the newest member of our family. 😊

Hi Folks,
Well, it official, as of 9.30 this morning I am self-employed. I saw my accountant and we discussed my business plan, how to keep records and pay tax. While we spoke, he created my BSB number and he registered my business name.
I decided to go with “Rocket Stoves N Chip Heaters FNQ”
That means I will have to change the name of this page. From what I understand that won’t change anything on your end. I’m hoping it will come up as a notification on your end. At least I hope it does.
I would hate to lose contact of the people who help me improve my business. I’ll wait a day or two before I do that so if you can’t find my page you will know how to find me again.

“Rocket Stoves N Chip Heaters FNQ”

My mind is literally abuzz with ideas I got from some of you and others from various community facebook groups around the Tablelands on the conversation “What is and what is not a chip heater” I can’t wait to get started on exploring them.
Catch you on the flip side.
Shane

Hi Folks,
I need your help.
Are you old enough to remember the old chip heaters, or do have older relatives that remember them? I don’t remember them my self (I must be young😊) but I have heard many people speak of them. When they do, most of them seem to get a little nostalgic, like they are a fond memory and very often say “yeah, they worked really well”
If you have no have idea what I’m talking about click here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chip_heater
or have a look in my FAQ post “What is a chip heater”
I invite you watch this video and them come back and tell me if it is fair to call it a chip heater. Keep in mind that you don’t have to run this water heater the way I did in the video. You could simple run a hose through it or gravity feed from a tank above into a bath. Now that, to me sounds like a chip heater.
I’m genuinely interested in your thoughts and opinions.
Regards Shane

Hi Folks,
I’d like to introduce you to the smallest of the Rocket Stoves that we do. We call it the “Mini” Don’t let the simplicity of design and its small size fool you into thinking it doesn’t punch above its weight. Weighing in at only 3.2kg (approx.), it is ideal for bushwalking, fishing, kayaking, camping or just a bit of fun outside with the kids. It’s very steady on its feet and can hold a large frypan or pot. It’s easy to remove ash while running enabling you to run it for long periods of time if you wish.

Price $120

Check out the video where I cook up a delicious lunch.
The video was originally made for YouTube but if you don’t mind me calling you “Youtube People” that shouldn’t be a problem.
For those of you living in or visiting the Atherton Tablelands don’t for get we attend the Tumoulin Country Markets every fourth Sunday of the month.

Failing that you can send me a PM of facebook, email me or give me a call.
