🌿 Medicinal Plants—Culture, Food & Healing with Aunty Rosie

Join Aunty Rosie, a Gamilaraay Yinarr, cultural knowledge holder and founder of the Culturally Informed Practices Institute, for a gentle knowledge-sharing experience exploring our relationships with native plants, food and wellbeing.

Participants will be invited to slow down, listen and experience this knowledge through native tea, yarning and the sounds of the didgeridoo. 👣 GATHAA NEXT GEN IN THE HOUSE 👣

What happens when you bring a group of deadly young Blak creatives, musicians, makers and entrepreneurs together, give them the space, back them and let them do their thing?

GATHAA NAIDOC Next Gen Market & Youth Showcase and it was something pretty special.

Young stallholders running their own businesses. Young musicians stepping onto the stage. Young creatives facilitating workshops and sharing their skills with jarjums. New friendships being made. Families pitching in. Mentors sharing their knowledge. And a whole community showing up to get behind them.

Some of our Next Gen have grown up around GATHAA through their families. For others, Sunday was their very first market. Some had performed before. For others, getting up there took a whole lot of courage.

And then there was that stage. 🔥

Watching our young performers meet, yarn, rehearse and pull a song together that morning before getting up and performing it together was one of those moments we won’t forget.

To every young person who had a stall, performed, created, facilitated, helped out or simply had a go — you should be so proud of yourselves. We certainly are.

And to the parents, families, Elders, mentors, artists, stallholders, volunteers, partners and community who stood behind them — thank you. Our young people had the confidence to step forward because there were people around them ready to encourage them when they did.

GATHAA Next Gen isn’t finishing here.

We’ve seen what these young people can do. Now we want to keep creating opportunities for them to practise, perform, create, sell, learn and keep building on what they started.

Each month we will give our Next Gen the opportunity to showcase their talents, products, skills at the Gathaa First Nations Market

Next Gen — you mob absolutely smashed it. 👣💛 More photos to come, watch this space 👣💛

There's mishmash of different photographers in the mix here but big thanks to Paul Zellerer for capturing special moments
