When was the last time you actually smelled a rose? 🌹

It’s a classic phrase: "Stop and smell the roses."

But the truth is, if you’re buying imported, mass-produced roses from the supermarket or traditional florist, there might not be much to smell. To survive long flights across the globe, those blooms are often bred for longevity rather than scent, and heavily doused in chemical cocktails to keep them looking "perfect."

You shouldn't have to hold your breath around flowers. 🥺🥀

Locally grown garden roses are a completely different magic. Because they don’t have to travel thousands of miles, they are grown for their breathtaking, true-to-nature perfume, unique textures, and romantic petals.

The next time you want to truly stop and smell the roses, look for locally grown. Your nose (and the planet) will thank you. ✨

With all this rain hitting the northern rivers, it is hard not to feel a bit down, especially for thr garden. The lack of sunlight and waterlogged soil is definitely making my little plot look a bit sad. 🥀🌧

But sunny days to come this weekend. Keen to get in and get my hands dirty again!

Out of everything in the garden, the cosmos are taking the biggest hit. Hopefully they will bounce back.

Happy World Bee Day 🐝

One of my favourite parts of being in the garden is the bees buzzing around.

Fun fact on bees: Flowers have a negative electrical charge and bees have a positive one. This static electricity causes pollen to literally jump onto the bee's hairs before she even lands!

The best thing about growing flowers?

Is having an endless supply always in your home! 🌹✨️

To me having fresh flowers is my house makes all the difference. It brings joy, beauty and peace into my space everyday.

Just remember to change the water regularly to help the blooms last longer. 🌱

A few weeks ago I was planting my sweetpeas.
I like to sow some directly in the soil, and some in trays.
How incredible is this root system of a sweetpea seedling from the tray? 😍🌱

Part 2:
Looking at the current state of affairs around the world is pretty scary. Speaking to friends and family, so many of us are feeling unsafe, uncertain and finding it hard to see a future.

The quote of: 'To build a garden is to believe in the future', is a powerful one. 🌿

With talks of food shortages, I knew I wanted to take back my power in looking after myself. Growing food is not only easy, it is very rewarding.

We often see people online talking about homesteading, living off-grid and growing food. But one thing I have found is what they are doing, while incredible, is pretty out of reach for the everyday person. I dont personally have acres of land, or the means to currently live off-grid.

But what I can do, is rent a little bit of dirt and turn it into a garden. I want to show that even with a small space, you can grow your own produce.

Not able to access a garden space? Pots are still an amazing way to grow your own food. (As mentioned, I also do this).

Gardening not only helps to bring you out into nature, reconnect with the land and the earths cycles and seasons, but it helps you co-create a more sustainable and bright future for yourself and the world around you. 🐝☀️🩷
