🌱 Fresh Loop is proud to announce our new partnership with UOW Pulse - Your UniLife!

This partnership is an exciting step forward in our mission to make good food more affordable, sustainable, and connected to the local community.

UOW Pulse plays such an important role in creating a welcoming and engaging campus experience for students at the University of Wollongong, and we’re excited to work together toward a shared vision of supporting students, reducing food waste, and strengthening our community.

Together, we are building a more sustainable, affordable, and connected food future for students and the wider Illawarra community. 💚

We hit the UOW campus to see if students could pass the Taste or Waste Trivia Challenge. Some of these answers left them (and us) absolutely shocked. From "resurrecting" stale bread to the truth about "illegal" donations, we’re busting the myths that fill our bins🤯

Fresh Loop is here to fix the system. We’re connecting you with delicious, local surplus at a student-friendly price 💸🌍

We’ve seen the prep board and the "all-you-can-eat" trap now, we’re showing you the solution. Chef Peony from Hotel Totto Wollongong knows that "made-to-order" menus are just the start. To truly end food waste, we need smart tech.

Continuing our conversation with Chef Peony from Hotel TOTTO Wollongong, we’re exposing the biggest misconception in the industry: the "All-You-Can-Eat" trap.

While we tracked how food is prepped last time, the real waste happens at the table. Because it feels "free," guests often pile plates high with more than they can actually finish.

The brutal truth: The second that surplus food touches a guest's table, it’s legally "trash". It can’t be saved, it can’t be donated, it must be discarded.

We’re flipping the script from mountain-like buffets to a circular future of mindful portions and made-to-order quality. 🔄✨

Ever wonder what happens to the food that’s prepared with care but doesn't find a home by closing time?

Behind every great Illawarra kitchen is a hidden reality: perfectly good food that simply runs out of time. We sat down with Peony, a Chef at Hotel TOTTO Wollongong, to walk through the journey of an ingredient from the prep board to the bin, and their effort to stop the cycle of waste.

It’s time to stop throwing away hard work. Watch to see how Peony and her workplace is closing the loop.

Today is Stop Food Waste Day, a global day of action with a simple mission: to ignite change in our food systems🌏💚

Every day, up to 33% of all food produced globally goes to waste. But here in the Illawarra, we’re doing something about it. At Fresh Loop, our mission is simple: ensure that no good meal goes to the bin when it could be on a local table.

We believe the solution starts in our own backyard. By connecting local vendors with the community, we’re turning the global "War on Waste" into a practical, everyday reality for the Illawarra 🌱

Our waitlist is still open as we move toward our goal of 100 founding members. If you’re ready to help make Wollongong a zero-waste hub, we’d love for you to join us 🫶

Fresh Loop was never meant to be just a marketplace.

It started with a simple question around food waste in Wollongong. But the long-term goal has always been bigger than just helping surplus food get sold.

Over the next 1 - 2 years, the vision is to grow Fresh Loop into something more:

A platform that builds awareness.
A movement that encourages better food habits.

A community that sees surplus food differently.
Because the mission isn’t only to reduce waste.
It’s to help reshape how food is valued, shared, and accessed in our local community.

🌱 Less waste. More awareness. More community.

The forgotten food in the fridge.
The extra groceries we didn’t need.
We misunderstood the “best before” date 😭

That’s why reducing food waste isn’t only about big actions.
It starts with small habits in everyday life 😎

At Fresh Loop, we believe fighting food waste starts long before food is thrown away. It starts with how we choose, store, and value it every day.

🌱 Less waste. More awareness.

"We didn’t start Fresh Loop to build an app…"

We started it after seeing the same pattern every day: Perfectly good food is wasted. While students and communities are struggling to afford meals.

💡 So we asked a simple question:
What if surplus food could actually reach the people who need it?

Fresh Loop began as a student-led response to something that didn’t make sense.

Not just a platform
but a new way to think about food, access, and waste.

And this is only the beginning.
