Our beautiful new labels and jars are being filled fast by our buzzy girls.
We are so happy with how they have turned out. Thanks to Lisa and the team at the printing well.

A little celebration for our girls today. Our mite count is finally into the singles.
4/300 was our highest wash today.
A little win and we will take anything we get right now.
Go the bees. Fighting back as hard as we can.

Wow, our girls have gone crazy this winter. They have completly built the roof out on this hive while we were on winter break for 10 days.
Was so heavy.
Finally some lower varroa counts here.
Still not where we want but the girls are looking good and we are doing everything we can to help.

Well its been a year at Bugs Bees.
First we got hit with the dreaded varroa mite. We panicked, called in the varroa management team, treated with a mitacide, then didnt sleep because we treated with a mitacide, but it worked. Varroa under control, new treatment options explored, then had a small hive beetle outbreak as our bees were weak. Panic, treatment for that, then re-infected with varroa. Another treatment, sorted. Happy bees, hives strengthing again....then the unthinkable, totally un-imaginable ...our new neighbour poisioned our hives. Yes you read that right...POISIONED..our hives.
Needless to say we were devastated and rather mad!
Long story short, we wiped our tears, stood ourselves up and Bugs Bees is back!

We couldnt of made it here without the unwavering support of all our family, friends, our other increadible neighbours, Qld beekeepers and an amazing commercial beekeeper called Nikki.

We are not saying it will be easy, it wont. Our hives are under the watchful eyes of a new security system and the police have a full report.

Now we move forward, stronger..
We just did our first, all be it very small, honey harvest. Our girls are strong, we have two new queens on order, we have learnt alot and will continue our beekeeping journey knowing your all behind us.

So here is a great big THANK YOU from us to you all.

Happy autumn (no change from summer here in Qld lol) The bees have given us a lovely surprise of honeycomb. We never normally harvest our honeycomb but when the girls fill up the roof cavity of their hive, out it comes. This honeycomb is so light and fruity. We have a super limited supply so let us know asap if you would like some. Perfect to put on easter platters, gifts or just to chew on.
$25 for 400g of comb and honey.
$15 for 1kg honey.

The hives stood up to Cyclone Alfred really well. We strapped them all together, strapped them down to the ground, supported the fence behind them and then crossed our fingers 🐝

Last night we picked up two new beehives. They weren't impressed by the car ride at all and put up a rather good fight but they are in their new homes, mostly settled and out exploring.

Bio security have checked out our buzzy friends and Bugs Bees are all doing well and are very happy. We are in the clear and have a good supply of newly spun honey. Send us a message if you would like some, no small jars this harvest, just 1kg jars $15. 🐝

Hi all you wonderful honey lovers...we have some very sad news today. Biosecurity Queensland have detected Varroa mite in a beehive at the Port of Brisbane and have have placed a whole heap of areas around the Port with a movement control order, effective immediately. That unfortunately includes us here in Wynnum. The order includes every type of bee product so this means we can't sell any honey until the MCO is removed. We will keep you all updated and cross our fingers that no further Varroa is detected anywhere and that our hives stay nice and safe and full of honey. 🐝
