Book: The Power of Now
Author: Eckhart Tolle
Reviewer: Md. Rakibul Hasan
"Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now." This is the main theme of this book. The author proceeds to answering questions and explains how important the power of Now is in our daily life.
The book is rooted in the power of living in the present moment. Although this book explains the power of Now, some spiritual terms were, also, explained as related to. The book longs almost two hundred pages and its language is intermediary.
The book also describes terms like mind, no-mind, consciousness, unconsciousness, inner body, self, being, happiness and unhappiness, peace and surrender and so on. Some will unfold your mind and blow as well.
The writer says: "Remember, You are not going anywhere. All things come and go. But you are not what happens. You are the silent space in which all things happen." it describes you as a center point where all things happen. Without your existence, nothing would appear in front of you. You wouldn’t have to think for a second what happens around the world.
The author insists you not to give all your attention away to the mind and to the external world. He says to focus on what you are doing. Focusing on the present, not past or future, will create a space where you will find yourself fully. You won't have to wander to the psychological times, that simply regard as past and future. You can have a sense of joy that lies only in the present moment.
"The present moment holds the key to liberation. But you cannot find the present moment as long as you are your mind." That suggests as long as you live in the psychological times, you cannot have the ability to free yourself up. You fall into the trap that most people do. That ruins your freedom and your dreams. When you can enter into the no-mind state, you get the power to do any creative or artistic task.
Nobody is consciously insane. The author explains, most of the time what we do, we do from a conditioned mind. Our minds get conditioned when we do our daily activities unconsciously for a longer period of time. Very few can work from a conscious state of mind.
You will find some interesting questions in this book as if you were asking the author and he is answering you.
The book talks about enlightenment, the state of pure consciousness. Enlightenment is a pathway which can bring prosperity to your life. Eckhart Tolle brings some teachings of Buddha in this book and shows us which are still relevant to this age.
