📚 HEAR-IT-IS! 🇧🇸🎙️

This morning, a Bahamian book was on the radio! And as the author, I had the rare pleasure of watching the review happen in real time. ❤️
Under the Sapodilla Tree: Bookera and Rabbinella — The Sisters of Brer Bookie and Brer Rabbie: A Bahamian Classic Influence Revived, by B. Jane Turnquest, was featured on Guardian Talk Radio as part of the Ministry of Education’s International Literacy Day celebrations.

And doing the reading? Caerwyn Turnquest, the 2026 National Spelling Bee Champion, now a Year 7 student at King’s College School, The Bahamas — and he did an absolutely excellent job! 👏🏽📖

Usually, readers finish a book and then give the author their rating and review. Today, the author got to sit right there and watch the review unfold.

Review #1: The way she listened, you would have thought she was hearing the story for the very first time.
Review #2: Every time a familiar piece of our Bahamian heritage came through the story, the Ministry’s Literacy Day representative and the radio host would look at each other and smile.
And that, for me, was the review. ❤️🇧🇸

When they hear it, recognize it, and smile because that belongs to us — that is exactly why we keep putting our culture on the page.

Our stories. Our children. Our heritage. On our airwaves.

Writers, readers, romantics, and respectable overthinkers—I require a literary ruling. 😄

The first 30 seconds of this passage wander rather confidently into souls, transcendence, Adam, Eve, and the possibility that two people might recognize a belonging they have no earthly language for.

My question: Is it beautifully lyrical and otherworldly—or have I levitated clean off the page and left the reader behind? 😂
