Supposedly very good speech by Sefalana MD, BUT he would make more sense if his massive enterprise could be patriotic enough to use it's economies of scale to support and uplift the upcoming local manufacturers. As a detergent manufacturer , we have been knocking on the doors of Sefalana Buying Dept for the past 5 years, trying to do business with them, to take advantage of their huge distribution strength and have our products on their shop shelves but that has been met with outright rejection. They keep claiming that they would soon put up their own brand, which has never come over the years and then they claim Batswana prefer South African products BUT then that does not hold water since we are able to sell to individuals and corporates the same products they are blatantly refusing to try on their shop shelves. At the moment, my observation is that the products given a chance on Sefalana shop shelves are those manufactured by foreigners & non-native Batswana of the lighter skin.
The only retailer receptive to Batswana products is Squaremart.
