In 1980s, you needed either a porter or serious biceps just to carry a delay unit to rehearsal. And still, the RE-501 became hugely popular worldwide. It took quality delay out of pro studios and put it in the hands of everyday players. Roland made something incredible – a machine that shaped the sound of the entire 80s scene.

This Japanese guy landed in my shop looking rough, worn down by time. This case, the kind people once would've sold their soul for, had clearly spent years in some damp, cold garage.

What greeted me inside wasn't pretty – the motor seized up from corrosion, connectors heavily oxidized and eaten away, everything wrapped in cobwebs and grime like the delay had become home to a few generations of insects.

But distilled water, cleaning solutions, fresh connectors, lubricant, and – above all – my patience brought this thing back to life. Hard to describe the feeling when I heard the first delay come out of the speakers...

See for yourself: it looks incredible! A real relic, a sensation of its era. I'm really glad I got to bring it back to life. Hoping it gives its new owner in Australia plenty of hours of joy playing the guitar🖤

Hey everyone, Vasili here.

Just a quick reminder: be careful not to tug on cables, especially flat ones, inside your pedals. Otherwise, someday they might rip just like the one you see in the photo.

This pedal wasn’t producing any sound when bypassed. If you have a similar pedal, it’s better to route the cables in a way that doesn’t strain them every time you change the battery.

Choosing the paint for a device is always a challenging decision as it significantly affects the device’s appearance effect. The color should be attractive without being overpowering, provide even coverage to all edges, and be resistant to cracking, among other factors.

I’ve taken some photos of paints that caught my eye. I need your help to decide on the best one. Please leave a comment about which paint you prefer and why.
