Crooked Spoon Foundation – Food Bank & Thrift Store

It’s come to our attention that some folks wonder why our food bank isn’t always full, especially since everything we do — our thrift store sales, meat draws, auctions, and fundraising — goes directly toward feeding our community.

We want to be fully transparent.

Our team works incredibly hard, often long days and late nights, creating new ways to raise funds. But running a food bank and thrift store comes with real costs: rent, utilities, insurance, internet, disposal fees for unsellable items, and a small amount of wages to keep the doors open. The list is long, and every dollar has to stretch.

Here’s something many people don’t realize:

About 90% of the food in our food bank is purchased by us — at full retail prices — from local grocery stores.
We buy from FreshCo, No Frills, Save-On-Foods, Superstore, Costco, and others. We always hunt for sales and discounts, but at the end of the day, we pay what every shopper pays.

We do this because we want to make sure families in our community have access to good, fresh, nutritious food.

But we can’t do it alone.

We would love — and truly need — more help from our community. Food donations, grocery gift cards, or financial support all make a real difference. We are doing our absolute best, but the reality is we can only do so much with the resources we have.

So please be patient with us. Support us. Stand with us. Spread the word. Together, we can feed more families and strengthen our community.
