Did you know, Rocky Mountain Hazelnuts grows saffron? Bulbs do exceedingly well in our sandy loam, droughty summers, and cold winters. No bare dirt is safe from experimental plantings! Saffron is an odd crocus that doesn't bloom in spring....I'll be expecting purple blooms spiking up around the first week of October.

Ok, Mr. Hawk Kite, do your thang! I have a beautiful, maturing hazelnut crop for a young orchard and anticipate crow/turkey/squirrel pressure due to the nearby forest. This is an animal-friendly deterrent that I'm optimistic about due to witnessing their effectiveness in Okanagan Vineyards. If it doesn't fly away overnight I'll lengthen the guideline so it can REALLY swoop.
