I’ve made over 200 gift bouquets in my first year and a half of business and these are the top 3 things I’ve learned:
1️⃣ Always take a deposit 💵
This should at a minimum cover your material costs in the event a customer abandons the order. Not only does a deposit protect you, but it also converts someone who is casually interested in your product into a committed customer.
2️⃣ Good bookkeeping 📖
When you’ve got multiple orders coming in for various dates, deposits and payments being made, expense receipts and unique costs of goods for every bouquet, keeping track of the financials in a well-organized spreadsheet is so important 👌
3️⃣ You don’t have to say YES to every order ❌
For many small businesses who are operating part-time, it can be a challenge to balance your business and your other responsibilities. Sometimes it’s okay to turn down an order to protect your peace!
What have you learned as a small business?!
