It was a rollercoaster of a day yesterday in Oyster Bed. While it wasnât the comeback we had hoped for, we know that days like these are the best opportunities to learn and improve.
After mysterious issues in 3rd practice, changes in the car led us to a P2 finish in our heat. With the car still not where it needed to be, the boys went to work to see what they could do for the feature.
Starting P14 in the 150, unsure how the car would handle, the car felt good. However, the front brake temperatures escalated quickly, indicating brake issues early on. With luck on our side, three timely cautions allowed us to pit, cool the brakes and check things out.
Under caution one, we earned the Lucky Dog, putting us back on the lead lap and sending us to start at the back of the pack. Caution 2 had us pit to cool the brakes, but kept us ahead of all the lapped cars. A third caution let us pit yet again, meaning Tanton had to work his way from the back 4 times, each time making it back up to the top half of the field.
During one final push on the last lap, making the pass for 6th place, the brakes finally gave out, leading to a spin in turn 3 right before the checkered flag dropped.
Now 2 laps down, we finished the day in P10. Despite how it looks on paper, yesterday was one of this teamâs best races of the season. From first practice until the last lap of the feature, they worked tirelessly, and collaborated until theyâd tried everything they could to field a top 5 car. With a team like this, we know weâll bounce back just in time to hit all our marks on August 15th.
As for our schedule, we will not be racing with the Maritime Pro Stock Tour at Scotia next weekend. Instead, we will be taking the time to adjust and do what we need to do before the season finale in two weeksâ time. The tear down already started this morning.
Thank you to our crew for all their hard work last night, and to all our sponsors and fans for their support.
Petty better be ready!
