missygoesboating.com Everything Cool For Recreational Boaters - www.missygoesboating.com For the past 30 years, I have been a recreational boater in the Pacific Northwest.

I live for a good dock party, flavourful snacks, fun cocktails, a stack of fashion magazines, and a healthy dose of dock talk. I write a fun blog at missygoesboating.com about my favourite gear, recipes, and destinations. I love oversized sunglasses, all things yachty, and my big red dogs. And I love to share all of this with women who boat!

15 nautical miles, beautiful scenery, and a destination that's always worth the trip βš“πŸ’™

Join me as we cruise from Port Sidney Marina to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club in Cadboro Bay, one of Victoria's most scenic waterfront locations.

Along the way, I share a family story about my grandfather, "Gaggy," who spent his career running the ferry between James Island and Victoria, explore one of my favourite Garmin navigation features, and enjoy a gorgeous day on the water.

We also spent two wonderful nights at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club thanks to reciprocal privileges through our yacht club membership.

A beautiful bay, a legendary sea monster, and more than 130 years of boating history βš“πŸ’™

Today we're exploring Cadboro Bay, one of Victoria's most scenic boating destinations and home to the historic Royal Victoria Yacht Club.

From stunning waterfront homes and views across Haro Strait to stories of Cadborosaurus ("Caddy"), this is a place where boating history and Pacific Northwest beauty come together.

As members of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, we're also fortunate to enjoy reciprocal privileges at RVYC, one of the many traditions that make the boating community so special.

There’s something deeply satisfying about turning a low-tide beach walk into dinner. 🌊πŸ¦ͺ

Today we headed out with our shovels and buckets, dug a few beautiful BC clams, let them purge for 48 hours, and then turned the whole adventure into a pot of homemade clam chowder.

One of my favourite things about boating is how it connects us to where our food comes from. A little fresh air, a little mud on your boots, and suddenly your next meal becomes part of the story.

The chowder? Creamy, comforting, and worth every scoop of sand. πŸ˜‹

Have you ever made clam chowder from scratch? πŸ‘‡ Tell me your favourite clam recipe ingredient in the comments.

There’s something special about finding boating books exactly where boaters shop. βš“πŸ“š

From independent bookstores and marina markets to provisioning stops and cruising resource centers, I'm incredibly grateful to see my books finding homes in places that support the boating community.

You can now find:

βš“ Coastal Galley
βš“ Aft Deck Society
βš“ Teak Table

at a growing number of boating-focused retailers throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Every store featured here shares something in common: a passion for helping people enjoy life on the water.

Thank you to the local businesses, marina stores, booksellers, and boating communities that continue to support independent authors and local boating culture. πŸ’™

Which marina store, bookstore, or boating destination should carry my books next?

Ever pull up your prawn line only to discover it’s been cut and retied? πŸŽ£πŸ€” That’s exactly what happened to us.

Many recreational prawners 🦐 have a theory: some commercial boats lay their gear directly over top of recreational traps, cut the line, retrieve the trap, then retie the line and send it back down. Whether intentional or not, it leaves many boaters scratching their heads when they find unexpected knots, shortened lines, or missing gear.

The ocean is a big place, and there should be room for all of us out there. Have you ever found your prawn line cut, retied, tangled, or moved? I'd love to hear your story in the comments. πŸ‘‡

Welcome to my fictitious magazine! Just fun daydreaming about Modern Yachting!

The pages would be filled with hidden anchorages, favourite dock stops, provisioning shortcuts, floating gardens, clever products, and stories about the people you meet along the way. There would be a section devoted entirely to beautiful boats, another for destinations worth adding to your cruising list, and probably a few pages dedicated to good coffee enjoyed on a quiet aft deck.

Of course, there would be plenty of room for my YouTube adventures, too. One month, we might be touring waterfront homes in Cadboro Bay. The next, taking a dinghy day trip to Nanaimo in search of boating treasures and the world's most dangerous chandlery for anyone carrying a credit card.

And because this is my magazine, there would definitely be a feature called Beach to Bowl, where we dig our own clams, let them spit overnight, and turn them into a pot of homemade clam chowder while watching the sun set over the anchorage.

Until someone offers me a publishing contract, I suppose my newsletter, website, and YouTube channel will have to do.

But it's fun to imagine.

What would you put in the pages of Modern Yachting?
