For centuries, women have been punished for stepping outside the roles society created for them.
Women have been persecuted for their knowledge. For healing. For speaking too loudly. For challenging authority. For owning property. For practising their traditions. For being poor, widowed, outspoken, different or simply inconvenient.
Some were called witches.
But The Northumberland Witch Walk is not a haunted walk. It is not a Halloween attraction.
It is an afternoon and evening of remembrance, history, storytelling, music and reclamation.
✨ THE GATHERING BEGINS AT 3:00 PM
Come early and make an afternoon of it in Downtown Colborne.
🎩 3:00–4:30 PM: Registration and check-in at Mystic Avenue, 18 & 24 King St. E. After 4:30, check-in moves to Victoria Square Park.
🎶 3:30–5:00 PM: Live musical performances in Victoria Square Park
🔥 BBQ in the park
🛍 Come early to explore Downtown Colborne, visit the shops and gather with the community before the walk.
🕯 THE WITCH WALK BEGINS AT 6:00 PM
As we walk together through Downtown Colborne, we will stop along the route to encounter powerful first-person portrayals of remarkable women from history. Women whose lives, courage and voices deserve to be remembered.
Between the stories, there will be music, drumming and moments for reflection as hundreds of us move together through the streets.
The walk will lead us back to Victoria Square Park, where the evening will culminate in a theatrical presentation exploring the history of the witch hunts, the persecution and silencing of women, and what the word WITCH has come to represent when women choose to reclaim it for themselves.
This is not about pretending to be witches.
It is about asking what happened to women when the word witch became an accusation.
It is about remembering those who were silenced.
And it is about what happens when we gather, listen to their stories and refuse to let those voices disappear.
✨ Admission is completely FREE.
Registration helps us plan for the size of the gathering, accessibility needs and event logistics.
