MetaMaker custom clicker keychains are made to order in Coquitlam. Choose an initial, a simple design or a multi-button name clicker, then mix up to three available colours for the body, button and lettering.

One nozzle. Five colours. No multi-material upgrade.

The usual answer to a multi-colour print is a filament changer — and then you watch it purge half a spool into a waste bin, switching back and forth on every layer.

There's an older answer: don't print it as one object. Print it as parts.

Split the model where a colour boundary already is. Put a rectangular tab on one side and a matching slot on the other. You'll see this joint called a few different things — tab and slot, peg and socket, mortise and tenon if you come from woodworking. In Bambu Studio it lives under the Cut tool as Connectors.

Clearance: 0.15–0.2 mm per side. That's 0.3–0.4 mm across the whole joint. And leave the same 0.15–0.2 mm under the tab — the slot needs to be deeper than the tab is long. Bottom out and the parts stand apart with a visible seam, no matter how well the sides fit. Print one tab and one slot as a test piece before committing to a whole set.

Prep before you glue. A quick sand on both mating faces, then wipe them down with a cotton pad and alcohol. Prints pick up oil from your hands and release agent from the plate, and glue doesn't hold on either.

Glue. Superglue sets in seconds and is fine when you want it done now, but it grabs before you've squared anything up and can leave a white haze around the joint. Five-minute epoxy is better for anything you care about — time to align, it fills a slightly loose slot instead of only wetting it, stronger bond.

Coat every wall of the slot, thin. Enough to wet the surface, not enough to pool. Too much and the tab pushes it straight out of the joint and down the side of the part, and cured epoxy on a finished surface is a much worse problem than a slightly weak joint.

What this buys you: no purge waste, colour combinations a changer can't reach anyway, and parts you can re-print one at a time. Break one piece, print one piece.

This is how our floating-steps cat is built — the cat and every disc are separate prints, which is the only reason a different colour can go on every single step.
