This Folk Art Painted Smoker’s Bow Windsor Captain’s Chair (c. 1840-1900) features a stunning, multi-layered distressed patina with original hand-painted scroll motifs on the crest rails.

PRICE: $85 (Cash Only)

The Details
Style: Smoker’s Bow Windsor / Captain’s Chair.

Origin: English or American vernacular (Mid-to-late 19th Century).

Materials: solid Beech (turnings)

Hardware: Includes an authentic period iron reinforcement rod on the back rail, adding to its industrial/primitive aesthetic.

Condition & Collectibility
Condition: Fair/Authentic. Shows over a century of human contact with significant paint loss, heavy patina on the seat, and smoothed edges.

Structural Note: There are visible cracks in the seat timber and a metal rod repair consistent with its age. I recommend keeping the original paint—it’s where the value lies!

Significance: While most Smoker’s Bows are plain waxed wood, this folk-art painted version is significantly more uncommon and desirable for collectors of primitive country furniture.

By appointment only. I go to Dryden, once per week.

📍 Location: Local pickup in Dryden.
