Alberta, Canada 2025, Day 4, Part 2

We spent the afternoon at Emerald lake. It was a pretty warm day and we had to stand in line for an hour and a half to rent Canoes and had to park a half mile from the lake. Worth it though. The water, even when you are on it, is that actual color and you can't see beneath the surface. It's completely opaque. We met some ladies from St. Louis area and a little family from SoCal in line for the Canoes. Olivia passed the time catching butterflies and moths. She caught a butterfly on the way to the car that didn't want to leave her when it was time to go.

On our way out of the park, we checked out the Natural Bridge. It was fenced off though, so we couldn't get on it.

Alberta, Canada Day 4, Part 1

Today, we ventured to Yoho National Park.
We stopped at Kicking horse pass to see a train go through the spiral tunnels and learn how they work.
Next stop was the roaring Takakkaw Falls. It's a very windy steep road to get to the trailhead with a couple of turns that are so sharp, some vehicles are too long to maje the turn and have to do a 3 point turn to get through them. The moment you step out of the car, you can hear the fall roaring. It was awesome and all of our favorite's water fall of the trip.

Alberta, Canada 2025, Day 3 part 2:

From Lake Louise, we shuttled to Lake Morraine. It was quieter and not as busy. We walked the rock stairs to the top of the rock pile to see the view of the lake from above. Breathtaking! On the shuttle back,
We met a young family from California who were on their 2nd week of a 3.5 week road trip with their Airstream trailer. They had been to so many places and gave us some tips for the rest of our trip. Morraine was my favorite Lake of all the trip.

Alberta, Canada 2025 Day 3, Part 1:

I went on a run along Policemans creek and Bow River in the morning while the kids slept in.

We drove to the Lake Louise ski resort, which was way further from Canmore than I expected, and rode the chair lift. I chose this lift because bears are often seen on the runs below. We didn't see any, but the views were spectacular! We drove to Herbert lake up the road for our picnic lunch and then went back to the ski resort so we could catch our shuttle to Lake Louse. The lake is even more beautiful in person. but it was packed with people. Gavin changed into shorts and took a dip in the icy waters. It was so cold it made him feel hot under his skin and tingly.

Alberta, Canada 2025, Day 2 part 2:

After Troll falls, we headed deeper into the woods on a gravel road towards the Black shale suspension bridge hike. We came around a corner to see this grizzly bear walking in the middle of the road. It moved to the side of the road and continued walking forward as we drove next to it. Our trailhead was about a quarter of a mile from the bear so that was a little unnerving. So unnerving that Denver and Dave decided they would stay in the car with radios and let the rest of us know if the bear was coming our way. They radioed us a minute after we started on the trail that that bear had headed up in the woods toward the other end of the loop we would be coming down on. A few minutes later, they saw another bear cross from the other side of the road and head up towards our trail. We never saw either of them. The bridge was cool and we had it all to ourselves for about 15 minutes. Worth it!
We returned our bear spray to the store and drove to our base air bnb in canmore. On the way, we saw these bighorn sheep in the road. The baby was nursing in the center of the road.

Alberta, Canada 2025 Day 2, part 1:

We headed to Kananaskis country first to Wedge Pond. It was dreamy with the mountains reflecting on the water and the trail through the woods around it. We skipped rocks, watched and caught tadpoles and a tiny frog and breathed in the pine scented, cool air.
From there, we stopped by the little store to rent some bear spray for the day.
Next was a hike to Troll Falls. We hiked to the lower and upper falls.

Alberta, Canada 2025 Day 1
Our summer trip this year had us flying to Calgary the afternoon of America's Independence Day. At least we escaped the heat...
Our 1st full day, we explored Calgary. We visited the beautiful Central public library, where the boys played a giant game of chess, Olivia cat napped and I sat at a puzzle.
We checked out the Devonian gardens, the Plus 15 Skywalk, and the Peace Bridge that crosses the Bow River. We would get to see miles and miles of that river over the next week.

We didn't have time for Christmas cards this year and didn't do family pics either. I tried really hard yesterday for a good one in our Christmas Sunday best though. My family doesn't like to play the family photo game with me.
We are mostly happy and mostly healthy and have had some great trips and times together this year. Thank you to all who have sent us cards. We love them all and feel so blessed to have you all in our lives. Merry Christmas from The Callisters and Vivien.
