🍁🏒 The Historic Memorial Cup Win🏒🍁

On May 16, 1976, with legendary OHL coach Bert Templeton, right, behind the bench, the Hamilton Fincups captured the Memorial Cup - Hamilton's second - with a 5-2 win over the New Westminster Bruins at the Montreal Forum.

The Fincups 1976 Memorial Cup win came in a thrilling tournament held at the Montreal Forum. After winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OMJHL champions, the Fincups, faced off against the New Westminster Bruins (WHL) and the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL). Despite losing their opening round-robin game to Quebec 4-3, the Fincups rebounded with a dominant 8-4 victory over New Westminster, scoring seven power-play goals in a penalty-filled affair. This decisive win, combined with a superior goal differential, propelled them directly into the final. In the championship game, the Fincups displayed a tenacious forechecking game to defeat the New Westminster Bruins 5-2, bringing the Memorial Cup back to Hamilton for the first time in 14 years.
