How can resistance bands help you in your workouts in general?
Resistance bands are essentially elastic bands that can be used during an exercise to add “progressive” resistance. If you added some “progressive resistance” in the form of a resistance band, you’d add more resistance at the strongest point in your range of motion therefore adding more resistance to better stimulate strength adaptations.
This makes the body work harder during the entire range of motion which ultimately means greater improvements. Resistance bands help also by targeting the weakest part of the lift not only when fighting gravity during the lift. Resistance bands add constant tension. It provides continuous tension to the muscles being trained. It helps recruit more muscle activation to the correct muscles to ensure that not only quads are being activated during squats for example but that we’re also activating the Gluteus Maximus & Gluteus Medius to get the most out of our squats. Some times when squatting we can become more quad dominate if our glutes aren’t firing properly. This ability to change emphasis is important for those looking to target specific muscles either for aesthetic reasons or for sport-specific requirements. It’s also important for those with injuries, as shifting the force more to certain muscles can help protect certain joints.
Many individuals using resistance bands report that they can feel a difference, such as a stronger burn in the muscles & greater muscle fatigue, as compared to using free weights. Linear variable resistance is to thank for this.
It’s important to Train with & without bands. Use a variety of training methods to get the most out of your gym time & out of your personal health & fitness goals. You can use bands as your dynamic warm ups & isolated activation moves. To have the muscles ready to fire for when your completing the exercises without the bands. To help with your mind muscle connection. You can use them for rehabilitation & injury prevention.
