Day 9: We show up to the Art Gallery of Ontario and get greeted by a giant elephant standing guard out front. Inside, more paintings than we could take in during one visit. Back at the apartment, we finally let the birds out of their cage, and Koko wasted no time picking a favourite shoulder to land on. Closed the day out with a well-earned toast and a favourite old tradition.

Day 8 of the hunt. Daylight hours went to scouting fresh targets across downtown Toronto — new turf, new shops, new possibilities. Then the sun went down and Surfer traded comic boxes for his sax, sitting in with the local jazz giants for a late-night set. Two different hunts, same relentless energy.

Day 7 of the hunt. 4,000 kilometers down, and we finally rolled into Toronto. First order of business: opening the U-Haul to check for storm damage. The bad news — Surfer's custom Silver Surfer box didn't make it. The good news — every comic inside came out bone dry, because we bag, board, and box everything right. Squeezed in a very impromptu tattoo touch-up before the night wrapped with Surfer's first set on a Toronto stage.

We found the biggest Galactus we've ever seen, and left with a book that's more important than it looks. Also: never trust a clear sky on the prairies.

Day 3 of the hunt started with zero sleep, a massive Calgary flea market, and a comic shop we could see through the glass but couldn't get into. Then the road decided to test us with some very optimistic gas math. By 2am, we'd earned a laugh we did not expect.

Day 2 of the hunt. First stop: Enderby Flea Market, digging for filler and dodging a very tempting Sting replica. Sugar stop in Banff, a late workout in Calgary, and then we tried a money-saving trick we will not be repeating anytime soon.
