Saint Valentine
Died: 269
Feast day: February 14
Patronage: love, youth, happy marriages
Saint Valentine of Rome was a bishop and martyr of the early church. Not much is known about him, except that his relics were found in the catacombs and an ancient church was dedicated to him. Tradition has it that Valentine cured the blind daughter of a Roman judge who along with his household, was later baptized. St. Valentine married couples, going against the edict of Cladius II. It was said that on the day of his ex*****on, he gave a note to his jailer’s daughter that he cured, that was signed “your Valentine”. He’s pictured with birds because birds start pairing in February around his feast day.

Blessed Maria Bolognesi
1924-1980
Feast Day: January 30
Italian Mystic, Stigmatist, and Layperson
Beatified: September 7, 2013
Patroness of the Servants of the Paraclete
Blessed Maria Bolognesi was born out of wedlock and suffered a difficult childhood. She suffered heroically an endless list of physical maladies throughout her life and in 1940 also suffered diabolical possession because of an evil spell. On Holy Thursday, 1942 she received her first vision. Jesus gave her 3 rings, representing the Trinity and 5 rubies, representing His 5 wounds. From 1944 to 1954 the stigmata gradually appeared on her body. She passed away in 1980 from a heart attack after enduring much suffering and persecution. Her life was one of charity to the poor and suffering for souls.

Saint Angela Merici

Patronage: sickness, handicapped people, loss of parents
St. Angela Merici was an Italian religious educator. She founded the Company of St. Ursula1535 in Brescia, in which women dedicated their lives to the service of the Church through the education of girls. This organization later sprang the monastic Order of Ursulines, whose nuns established places of prayer and learning throughout Europe and, later, worldwide, most notably in North America.

Saint Francis de Sales

Patronage: against deafness, authors, Catholic press, confessors, deaf people, educators, journalists, teachers, writers
Born to the nobility, St. Francis de Sales, who is known for his deep faith and patience, studied law and theology at the University of Padua, Italy, earning a doctorate in both fields. Bishop of Geneva in 1602. He is known also for his writings on the topic of spiritual direction and spiritual formation and authored many books, the most famous of which was Introduction to the Devout Life.

Saint Marianne Cope
1838 - 1918
Feast day: January 23
Patronage: lepers, outcasts, those with HIV/AIDS
Marianne Cope, baptized Maria Anna Barbara Koob, was born in Germany and her family emigrated to the United States the next year. She helped support her family and invalid father until his death and then left home to pursue a religious calling receiving the religious habit of the Franciscans Sisters in Syracuse, New York and new name Marianne. In 1883, by then Superior General, Cope responded to a call to care for the leprosy sufferers in Hawaii. In 1888 she moved to Kalaupapa to care for the dying Fr. Damien. Saint Marianne Cope died of natural causes in 1918 at the age of 80.
