Okay beekeepers, we want to hear your thoughts on this oneโฆ ๐
Scott is in Northern Kentucky giving us an up-close look inside one of his PureWave Cell hives. First of all, look at how incredibly calm these bees are. It almost feels like youโre right there in the hive with them.
But Scott also believes this hive recently swarmed.
Weโve actually heard quite a few of the beekeepers in our PureWave Cell Program talk about how quickly their colonies are growing and with that, some of those colonies swarmed. Most beekeepers reporting it as a "pro" and some reporting it as a "con."
So it got us thinkingโฆ how do you feel about swarms?
Some beekeepers look at swarming as losing part of their colony and do everything they can to prevent it. Others look at it as a sign of a strong, healthy colony that has grown enough to split off and create another colony somewhere else.
And thatโs where it gets interesting to us. When a strong colony splits naturally and leaves behind a functioning colony, should we really think of that as โlosing beesโ? Or are those bees just doing what they naturally do and are helping grow the bee population somewhere else?
We know there are a lot of different opinions on this, so we want to hear them.
Do you try to prevent your hives from swarming? Or when you see a swarm, do you look at it as something worth celebrating?
