Hello 👋 I thought it's been a while since I showed the face behind the business so here I am!

My name is Melonia (pronounced Mel-on-a) & I am married with a son (still getting used to saying that! My baby just turned 1 on April 2nd 🥰) I'm a Northern Ireland native but living the Canadian life now!

Being crafty is my therapy in the evening but by day I'm a Social Worker working with children and their families with disabilities. I'm also about to start offering counselling services alongside a wonderful established counsellor. Since the birth of my son I've developed a particular interest in perinatal mental health and ensuring parents get the support they need during the pregnancy and postpartum sessions of life. I earned my certification in perintal mental health during my last few months of maternity leave. Your support of my small business funded that so thank you!

At weekends you can find me hanging out with my little family or making a mess (I tell my husband it's 'experimenting' 😂) in my she-shed! I also just love being in nature!

It's a new week! Whether the last one was pants or amazing, this is the start of a new one!

We are starting a new daycare today closer to home after we unexpectedly got a spot sooner than planned & I'm not excited about another change even though I know it's a good thing! I'm not ready for more potential tears as baby transitions but I'm going to slap a big old smile on my face & save the emotions for the car!

I hope your week gets off to a good start whatever may come your way! ☀️

I've been sitting on a little secret & today is the perfect day to share it 💗

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day which aims to raise awareness of maternal mental health issues so that more pregnant and postpartum parents will get treatment and fewer will suffer in silence.

While I was pregnant I participated in an ongoing study called 'Pregnancy in the Pandemic' by the University of Calgary & got access to a lot of very new reports on maternal mental health and the numbers were shocking - high need, little service.

Then we had our scary experience with Fletcher at 5 days old & afterwards said to each other 'if you need someone to talk to about this, we'll find them' but when out of curiosity I looked to see available resources, there wasn't anyone who was specifically trained to help parents in the perinatal period.

I decided to become a resource for others so I studied really hard & earned myself the title of PMH-C (perinatal mental health certified). As of right now, I am one of only 3 people in MB to have this however one of 2 in Brandon so that's encouraging! 💗

I'm still working through how I can best use this new certification & I'll be sure to share that as soon as I know but I wanted to share it today so if you or anyone you know is struggling you have a connection who you can reach out to. 1 in 5 women are affected and 1 in 10 men so chances are you know someone affected by a Perintal Mood & Anxiety Disorder. It's nothing to be ashamed off. Please don't suffer alone.

As a society, we're all too good at offering to hold the baby but what about the parent?

⭐️ Customer Photo ⭐️

One of my 1st orders when I opened was teeny weeny little 'story time' - much smaller than my standard sizing. Some trial & error later and here's the final result!

'story time' in Misty Grey. Displayed in such an amazing room! I can't enough of the rainbow for starters! 😍
