Just in case this cold snap has frozen our memories, thought I'd put a couple of pictures out there to remind you of the beauty waiting to unfold in your gardens is a matter of a few months! You can be checking your tubers to make sure there isn't any rot happening! If you find some....throw them out in the garbage. Once the weather starts to warm up check them again as there may be small eyes or shoots starting. Any questions just text or send by email.

Happy Fall Everyone!
You Dahlia people know who you are and it's time to say goodbye to the beautiful colour in your gardens.
Make sure you have tagged your plants with the proper names and then cut the stalks off approximately 6-8 inches above the soil. Let them stay like that for a week to 10 days before diggiing them up.
Wash them off and then let them dry for a couple of days in a cool space.
Split the clumps now as it is easy to see the eyes that are trying to send new shoots out. Each tuber must have atleast one or more eyes to produce a plant next spring. I would suggest having 2-3 tubers in each clump for storage. When storing make sure that the clumps don't touch. This way if one clump starts to rot then it doesn't pass it onto the next clump. Layering them in shavings in a plastic tote works well and keeping them over the winter in a dark cold place. Very cold but so they don't freeze. Check them each month to make sure they aren't rotting.
There are various ways of storing tubers and what works for one may not be the best for the next person. If you have a raised flower bed, you can remove the soil onto a tarp to return to the bed in the spring once you have dug up your tubers. After the soil is removed, place a layer of shavings on the bottom of the pit. Layer your dahlia clumps (no touching each other) put another layer of shavings on top and continue in this way til all of your tubers are covered. Place a thick layer of shaving ontop of everthing then a couple of tarps that are placed ontop and secured on all four sides so the winds don't lift them. **Mother nature will keep the tubers cold but won't let them freeze with all of the shavings which insulates them.

We've been busy in the garden tying up flowers as the warm summer weather has made the dahlias grow extra tall this year with beautiful color for the blooms. Visit the garden to see for your self. It's quite wonderful how while working in the garden driving by just stop in when they see us in the flowers. They say "they can't help but want to see the beauty up close and personal. We've met so many great people. Our prices for cut bouquets are very reasonable and for tubers in the spring, they are only $4-$5 when you get a plant 4 feet by 4 feet full of flowers. You can't get that at a store. By planting your own tubers, you can enjoy them in your very own garden. Have your fresh bouquet every other day that you grow. Come and ask questions on how to do this.....it's easier than you can imagine! 😁

Well it's been another hot summer and the dahlias and glads have loved it! The flowers are non-stop blooming. It is truly a sea of color! Come visit the garden and make your wish list for tuber sales in the spring (March/April) for planting in May. Don't be dissappointed. We look forward to meeting you. Prepare to be amazed!🎆

It was an amazing colourful dahlia and gladioli season at our garden. The blooms started bursting into colour the first week in July and haven't stopped. Weddings and other occassions by appointments and drop ins made for continuous cutting of flowers. The dahlias love that cause then they give even more blooms. I supposed it helped that Vern was busy preparing the soil with horse manure from a good friend to fortify the soil before planting. The difference has been unbelievable.....come see for yourself. These beauties will be here til the first frost usually around Thanks giving. Don't be disappointed by not coming to see the ocean of colours.
