Why did I open this business?

Cheeky answer: Because I wanted to and thought “why not?”. I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by people telling me I can do anything. I also love proving haters wrong, primarily myself. I wanted to prove that I could do it. So here I am, doing it. What, like it’s hard? 💅 (yeah, actually it kinda is, more on that later)…

Thoughtful answer: Because it brought genuine joy to me seeing people connect and bond over my designs. I like educating on niche topics and bringing social justice to the forefront of conversations. I like to be funny, sarcastic and creative. I like showing others how to make their own buttons and helping them unleash their creativity. I like challenging harmful narratives, and talking about taboo subjects. I like normalizing hard conversations. I like connecting with community.

TL;DR I started making small accessories with a lot to say to start conversations, spark curiosity and encourage compassion.

🏡 Beyond Buttons is a quirky little home business nestled in Northern Ontario, owned by me, (she/her). In 2020, I started making buttons for fun with slogans like “Cats against catcalls”, “Nice people do drugs”, and “Abortion access is peachy”. Then with support from family and friends, I started selling buttons in 2023 at local markets, on socials and on our website. Beyond Buttons was born. What started as offering high quality, hand-pressed buttons with cheeky messaging grew into something beyond “just buttons”. It grew a space where people gather, ask questions, get curious, laugh, learn, cry and create. As a 2024 Canadian Choice Award winner in Education & Advocacy, this pop-up business continues to push the status quo. From farmers markets, to festivals, we’ve met friends, enemies, lovers and haters (but that’s another story, for another time…). Today, Beyond Buttons is proud to offer customers the choice between having designs/ images printed on magnets, keychains, magnetic bottle openers, and of course, buttons.
