malfunxion is the playful, pixel-inspired world of Vancouver artist Mallory Donen, where traditional cross-stitch meets glitches, computer errors and bold colour. Mallory’s work explores the connection between threads and pixels, using the familiar grid of cross-stitch to bridge handmade craft with the aesthetics of digital technology.

The idea grew from Mallory’s larger art practice, where she became fascinated by mistakes and technological failures—especially the unexpected beauty that can come from a corrupted image or computer glitch. Rather than hiding imperfections, malfunxion leans right into them, turning those “errors” into vibrant handmade designs. Even the name is part of the joke: the deliberate x is a nod to the little stitched crosses at the heart of the work.

At her table you’ll find original cross-stitch artwork alongside DIY kits and patterns, hand-stitched patches, brooches, cards, magnets, apparel, prints, stickers and more. malfunxion is Mallory’s commercial extension of her studio practice—made for people who love fibre art, bright colour, a little weirdness, and the reminder that sometimes the most interesting things happen when something doesn’t work exactly as planned.

🔹VENDOR SPOTLIGHT FABCYCLE Deadstock Fabric Shop 🔹

FABCYCLE began with a simple idea from founder Irina “Fabric isn’t waste if someone can still create with it.”After seeing perfectly usable deadstock, off-cuts, scraps and sewing supplies being discarded by the apparel industry, Irina set out to connect those unwanted materials with the makers who could give them another life. What began as a textile collection service in 2017 grew into Vancouver’s FABCYCLE Textile ReUSE Centre, which opened in 2019.

Today, FABCYCLE works with local manufacturers, designers, schools and other businesses to collect textile waste, sorting what they receive with reuse as the first priority and recycling materials when reuse isn’t possible. Their ever-changing collection includes deadstock fabric, scraps, sewing notions and supplies, yarn and other rescued materials—meaning a visit can feel a little like a treasure hunt for creative people.

But FABCYCLE is about more than keeping beautiful materials out of landfill. Their Vancouver ReUSE Centre was created as an inclusive space where artists, sewists, designers, students and curious makers can experiment, connect and see discarded materials differently. It’s a philosophy that fits beautifully with the fibre community: use what already exists, get creative with it, and give good materials another chance to become something wonderful.

🔹Vendor Spotlight Wild Woollys Hand-Dyed Yarns 🔹

Wild Woollys is the colourful creation of Curtis and Alyse, a Victoria, BC duo building a yarn business around bold colour and a shared love of the fibre arts. Alyse, co-founder and lead dyer, is a lifelong Vancouver Islander who has been knitting, crocheting and making for as long as she can remember. Eventually, her love of yarn led to a new question: what if she created the colours she wanted to knit with herself?

That curiosity grew into Wild Woollys in 2024. Today, Alyse dyes their yarn in small batches, creating vibrant variegated colourways, rich tonals, solids and sock sets in fi*****ng, DK, worsted and bulky weights. Their yarn begins with responsibly sourced merino wool, with bases spun in Canada and the UK before the colour magic happens in Victoria.

In a short time, Wild Woollys has grown from a new Vancouver Island venture into a brand stocked by yarn shops across BC and beyond, while Curtis and Alyse continue taking their colourful skeins to fibre markets throughout the region. But the heart of Wild Woollys is still wonderfully simple: make beautiful yarn that sparks an idea and makes someone want to cast on immediately.

Myrtle Yarn is the colourful work of Kara, an independent dyer creating small batches of yarn and spinning fibre from her home dye studio just outside Vancouver, BC. With a palette that moves between dreamy neutrals, earthy shades, soft pastels and unexpected pops of colour, Kara creates fibre meant to feel just as beautiful in your hands as it looks on the skein.

Natural fibre is at the heart of Myrtle Yarn. Kara carefully chooses bases made entirely from plant or animal fibres, with no nylon, acrylic or other synthetics. Her collection ranges across a variety of yarn weights and fibres, alongside hand-dyed spinning fibre—including non-superwash Bluefaced Leicester combed top for spinners.

What began as little batches of hand-dyed fibre has grown into an indie yarn brand now stocked by yarn shops across Canada and into the US. 🔹VENDOR SPOTLIGHT SheraboOrganics Nilotica Shea🥜 🔹

Sherabo Organics Inc. is the creation of Olivia, an Ugandan-born entrepreneur who turned a deeply personal journey with her own skin into a Canadian-made skincare company. After experiencing serious skin problems in 2014, Olivia began looking for gentler alternatives to the products she had been prescribed. That search ultimately brought her back to something connected to her Ugandan roots: Nilotica shea butter.

Olivia began experimenting with Nilotica shea and simple, plant-based ingredients, eventually turning what she had learned into Sherabo Organics in 2017. Today, she handcrafts small batches of vegan skincare, including shea body butters, face oils, moisturizers and raw Nilotica shea butter. The word Sherabo means “gift” in Olivia’s ethnic language—a fitting name for a business built around sharing an ingredient she considers one of Uganda’s gifts with her community in Canada.

There’s also a connection that reaches back to the source. Sherabo uses ethically sourced, fair-trade Nilotica shea from Uganda and is committed to supporting the local women who collect the shea nuts. For Olivia, Sherabo Organics brings together nature, heritage and entrepreneurship—sharing a little piece of where she comes from through products made by hand here in BC.

🔹VENDOR SPOTLIGHT Green Zebra Curios 🔹

Green Zebra Curios is the wonderfully whimsical work of Rey, a disabled q***r fibre artist with a love for nature, kawaii cuteness, retro inspiration, and turning wool into unexpected little creations. Rey’s felting journey began in 2019, when a local trade landed them a needle-felting lesson—and introduced them to a whole new way of making.

From there, curiosity took over. Rey taught themself wet felting through YouTube tutorials, with a Totoro coin purse becoming their very first wet-felted project. After stepping away from felting during the pandemic, Rey eventually found their way back to the craft and began dreaming up new pieces and developing original designs of their own.

Today, Green Zebra Curios is filled with playful wool-felted art inspired by the natural world, kawaii culture, and a little retro nostalgia. From mushrooms, bees, birds and other tiny treasures to whatever Rey dreams up next, there’s a sense of humour and imagination running through it all.

🔹VENDOR SPOTLIGHT Knot So Serious 🔹

Knot So Serious is the colourful creation of Annika, a Victoria, BC maker who turned her love of knitting—and a longtime dream of owning her own business—into a naturally hand-dyed yarn company. With encouragement from a supportive fibre community, Annika took the leap and began experimenting with natural colour, building Knot So Serious one dye pot at a time, right from her own kitchen.

Working in small batches, Annika creates naturally dyed yarn in DK and fi*****ng/sock weights, with fibre occasionally joining the mix too. Natural dyeing brings its own element of discovery to the process: subtle shifts, variations, and surprises become part of the colour, giving each batch its own character.

For Annika, Knot So Serious is both a creative adventure and a dream becoming real. It brings together her love of knitting, her curiosity about natural colour, and the community that encouraged her to give that dream a chance. From Annika’s kitchen dye pots to another maker’s needles or hook, each hank gets to become part of the next creative story.
