Did you have Rambo action figures growing up?

Rambo III (1988), Sylvester Stallone taking down a helicopter with a machine gun, and some classic action figures sitting on top of the TV.

This was childhood in the ’80s and ’90s! Legendary action heroes, unforgettable movie scenes, and toys that let us recreate all the action in our living rooms.

Who remembers playing with Rambo toys?

Battletoads on the Nintendo NES was already hard.

Then came the Turbo Tunnel.

For a lot of us, this was the moment the game stopped being “difficult” and became personal.

The speed kept increasing.
The walls came faster.
One tiny mistake meant starting over.

And somehow… we kept trying.

No save states.
No checkpoints every few seconds.
Just repetition, frustration, memorization, and finally making it a little farther than last time.

What was that one game none of your friends liked… but you somehow loved?

For me, it was The Adventures of Bayou Billy on the Nintendo NES.

It was hard. The controls weren’t exactly smooth. And somehow, I still loved it — especially the way it mixed regular gameplay with the Zapper light gun sections.

The problem was convincing my friends to play it.

There was always a deal: “Fine, we’ll play Bayou Billy… but then we’re playing Tecmo Bowl or Double Dribble.”

Every group had that one game.

Which team did you always pick in NBA Jam?

NBA Jam hit the arcades in 1993 and basketball games were never the same.

Two-on-two basketball. Ridiculous dunks. No fouls. Players catching fire. And an announcer screaming “BOOMSHAKALAKA!” while everyone around the cabinet watched.

NBA Jam wasn’t trying to simulate basketball. It turned basketball into an arcade spectacle.

For a lot of us growing up in the ’90s, seeing an NBA Jam cabinet meant one thing: somebody was about to lose a few quarters.

International Superstar Soccer Pro ’98 on the original PlayStation was pure late-’90s football nostalgia.
